“Some people think that schools should group their pupils according to their academic abilities. Others believe that young people with different abilities should be educated together. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. ”
Some people think teaching children with different abilities together benefits everyone, but others think intelligent children should be taught separately and given special treatment. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. (2016/5/7)
01、As is often the case, students in the same school are often quite different in their academic development, but it is always a controversial issue whether students should be grouped in accordance with their academic abilities.
(2) as is often the case
(3) controversial
(4) in accordance with 根据(= according to)
02、Giving special treatment to those highly intelligent pupils in school is sometimes really appropriate. For example, if an 11-year-old pupil is exceptionally good at maths and he is able to solve k 9 maths problems, it is truly stupid to put him in a k7 maths class. Since all these k7 maths problems are far too easy for him, he may not feel challenged at all and gradually lose his interest in maths. However, if he were grouped to learn maths together with older children, his academic potentials could be better developed. In fact, as far as the academic study is concerned at least, I believe it is beneficial to put students with similar academic abilities in the same class.
(2)is exceptionally good at…
(3)lose interest in 失去对…
(4)far too easy
(5)假设句:if he were grouped…
(6)academic potentials
03、Solving maths problems is not, however, the only reason why pupils go to school. As future leaders of the world, children should learn how to work out a problem in cooperation with different people. No matter how smart a person might be, he could not possibly succeed in solving a highly complex problem all by himself. Learning together with other children—even those intelligently average—provides an excellent context for pupils to develop their skills of leadership and spirit of teamwork. This is probably the reason why in the movie "Superman", Clark has to be working together with others as a newspaper man. Only in this way can the superhero understand human problems and then figure out the way to solve them.
(2)in cooperation with 与…合作
(3)no matter how + adj.
(4)succeed in doing sth.
(5)complex
(7)only in this way can…
04、So academically children with different abilities should be taught separately because this could help maintain their interest in the subjects they are learning, yet when it comes to social skills, I do believe they could be better developed if all children—academically outstanding or not —sit in the same classroom.
(2)maintain interest in…
(3)when it comes to... 就......而言
(4)outstanding
